To maintain the beauty and longevity of your handmade gemstone jewellery, we recommend following a few simple care guidelines.Avoid water and moisture: Remove your jewellery before showering, bathing, exercising or swimming, especially in seawater or chlorinated pools.Avoid chemicals: Keep your jewellery away from perfumes, lotions, creams, cleaning products and other chemicals, as these may affect the finish and natural beauty of the materials.Clean gently: Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and fingerprints. A suitable jewellery polishing cloth may be used for sterling silver pieces. Clean gold vermeil and gold-filled jewellery gently, avoiding abrasive materials that could damage the finish.Store carefully: When not wearing your jewellery, store it in your Tara and Gems gift box in a cool, dry place, away from humidity and direct sunlight. Keep individual pieces separate where possible to prevent scratches and tangling. With proper care, your natural gemstone jewellery can retain its beauty and shine for longer, allowing you to enjoy your favourite pieces for years to come.
Yes! At Tara and Gems, we use high-quality, nickel-free materials, including 925 sterling silver, 18k gold vermeil, 14k gold-filled and 14k solid gold. Our handmade gemstone jewellery is designed with both quality and comfort in mind, making it a lovely choice for those with sensitive skin.We carefully select our materials to ensure you can enjoy beautiful, high-quality jewellery with confidence.
Although all three finishes feature genuine gold, they differ in how they are made and how well they withstand everyday wear.Regular gold plating: A thin layer of gold applied over a base metal. It is generally the most affordable option but may fade or wear away more quickly with regular use.18k gold vermeil: A thicker layer of genuine 18k gold over a sterling silver base, offering a luxurious finish and greater durability than standard gold plating.14k gold-filled: A substantial layer of genuine 14k gold mechanically bonded to a base metal, providing excellent durability and greater resistance to fading and wear. Both 18k gold vermeil and 14k gold-filled jewellery offer beautiful, more durable alternatives to standard gold-plated jewellery at a more accessible price than solid gold. However, neither is solid gold, and both require proper care to preserve their finish. With the right care and storage, your gold vermeil, gold-filled and gemstone jewellery can maintain its beauty and shine for a long time, allowing you to enjoy your favourite pieces for years to come.
